This information is to educate you on how to keep your jewelry looking beautiful and dazzling so that it maintains its original brilliance throughout the years.
- When you are not wearing your jewelry, store it in a cool, dry place like a jewelry box or a zip lock baggy. What causes metals, especially silver, to tarnish is the air. The more you can keep it sealed (when you aren't wearing it), the less it will tarnish.
- Never use an ultrasonic cleaner, ammonia or any chemical solution to clean opaque gemstones such as turquoise, onyx, malachite, lapis lazuli and opals. They are porous stones and may absorb the chemicals which build up inside the stone and cause discoloration. Simply wipe them with a damp cloth until clean.
- I recommend using Connoisseurs Silver Cleaner (dip) to clean your silver jewelry. It can be found at any Wal-Mart or Meijer at the jewelry counter for about $3 in an all gray bottle. Place your silver jewelry in the tray and simply dunk it in and out for only a few seconds then rinse under luke warm water until the cleaning solution feels completely gone then pat dry with cotton cloth. Never put Pearls in the silver dip, for it will strip your pearls of all luster instantly and this is irreversible.
- Never immerse your sterling / gold jewelry in chlorine, salt water, mineral springs or suntan lotion. This will cause major corrosion to your metals and is often irreversible.
- Apply perfume, make-up and any hair styling products prior to putting on your jewelry to prevent build up and damage to metals and softer stones.
- Please remove all jewelry before sleeping and any sports activities.
- To remove your South Paw Studios tag, simply cut elastic string with scissors.
